SEVENTEEN rapper Vernon released his new solo single “I’ll Be Back” on Thursday, August 20, 2026, hours after entering a training center to begin mandatory military service in South Korea. The self-written and self-composed track was released as a musical farewell to fans ahead of his service.
“I’ll Be Back” is an electronic pop track that pairs Vernon’s understated vocal style with lyrics directed toward fans who have followed his career. He first performed the previously unreleased song during his 2026 VERNON THE 8 [V8] LIVE concert in July, where it became a fan favorite.
Vernon began his service on August 20 and will complete basic military training before continuing his mandatory duty as a social service worker. His expected discharge date is May 19, 2028. PLEDIS Entertainment requested that fans refrain from visiting his training center or future workplace to protect his privacy and safety.
Vernon has been part of SEVENTEEN since the group’s debut in 2015. SEVENTEEN has become one of K-pop’s largest acts in the United States, earning six consecutive top 10 albums on the Billboard 200 through 2024. Vernon has also developed his solo career within the group, including work with The8 in the V8 unit.
