Phoebe Bridgers has released Lost Weekend, her first solo album in six years, arriving as the singer-songwriter turns 32. The 16-track record marks her longest and most daring work to date, made with new collaborator Jack Antonoff and shaped by influences including ambient music and Radiohead.

The album explores themes of love, loss, and grief, with her father’s death in 2023 looming large across several tracks. On “Still Standing,” she sings: “I can’t imagine you dead / But you are every day.” The album also includes a voicemail from her father on “Never Going Back!” Other standout tracks include “Bobby,” an uptempo rocker about her relationship with comedian Bo Burnham, and “As Above,” which she debuted at Madison Square Garden earlier in the summer.

Bridgers employs her signature bookend structure, opening with “The Outside”—featuring vocoder and synths—and closing with “Lost Weekend (Reprise),” which contains the couplet: “Now I can’t see any stars in the sky / When a dream comes true, a fantasy dies.” The album also features a duet credited to the pseudonym Son John-Johnson on “I Can’t Wait,” which touches on aging and self-perception.

The release follows Bridgers’ 2024 Grammy Awards sweep, where she won more awards than any other artist as a member of boygenius, her indie-rock supergroup with Lucy Dacus and Julien Baker.
