New Radicals have released their first original song in nearly 28 years, with “One Night Only (Break Loose Break Free!)” appearing on the soundtrack for the upcoming rom-com One Night Only. The film, about searching for love on the least romantic night of the year, releases August 7, 2026.
The track marks the first new original song under the New Radicals name since the band released Maybe You’ve Been Brainwashed Too in 1998, which featured their hit “You Get What You Give.” Frontman Gregg Alexander disbanded the group in 1999.
Alexander continued working as a songwriter and producer, co-writing songs including Sophie Ellis-Bextor’s “Murder on the Dance Floor,” Santana and Michelle Branch’s “Game of Love,” and Adam Levine’s Oscar-nominated “Lost Stars.” New Radicals reunited in 2021 to perform at President Joe Biden’s inaugural parade, with Alexander, longtime collaborator Danielle Brisebois, and touring musicians.
In 2024, the band rerecorded “Lost Stars” and “Murder on the Dance Floor” under the New Radicals name, and took over for Santana on Branch’s rerecording of “The Game of Love.” The One Night Only soundtrack also features King Princess’ cover of “Love Is in the Air” and Este Haim’s film score.
