Il Divo is working on a new album, the follow-up to 2024’s XX, a 20th anniversary collection. “The plan is to do new music, then go back out and share that with the world. With some collaborations as well,” said Urs Bühler, the group’s Swiss tenor.
The group lost Spanish baritone Carlos Marín in 2021 at age 53. Surviving members Bühler, Sébastien Izambard (French) and David Miller (American) recruited Mexican-American baritone Steven LaBrie to continue the act. “A part of us thought, we need to keep representing the legacy of our band,” Izambard said. “If Carlos had still been in this world, he would probably have told us to keep going.”
Il Divo will perform at the Carreras & Friends concert on December 5 at Brisbane’s Gabba Stadium, alongside tenor Jose Carreras and artists including Robbie Williams, the Corrs, Ronan Keating, Natalie Imbruglia, Darren Hayes and Katherine Jenkins. The show marks the group’s first Australian performance since a four-city tour in 2023.
Since their 2003 formation by Simon Cowell, Il Divo has sold over 30 million albums and became the first classical crossover act to debut at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart in 2006 with Ancora. They have collaborated with Celine Dion, Toni Braxton and Michael Ball, and performed for former U.S. presidents and the late Queen Elizabeth II.
