Broadway’s reimagined revival of Cats: The Jellicle Ball will close at the Broadhurst Theatre on August 8, following a run that began March 18 with an April 7 opening. The production will have played 142 performances and 21 previews.
The revival, which fuses ballroom culture with Andrew Lloyd Webber’s 1979 musical, received three 2026 Tony Awards for direction (Zhailon Levingston and Bill Rauch), choreography (Omari Wiles and Arturo Lyons), and costume design (Qween Jean). The production transforms Jellicle cats into drag ball contestants walking the runway.
Following an online fan campaign, producers announced a cast recording will be released by Atlantic Records this winter, with an exact date to be announced.
The cast includes Tony winner André De Shields as Old Deuteronomy, Chasity Moore as Grizabella, Junior LaBeija as Gus, Sydney James Harcourt as Rum Tum Tugger, and Legendary head judge Leiomy as Mavacity, among others. The production features vogueing-infused choreography and onstage seating on either side of a ballroom runway.
The original Cats debuted on Broadway in 1982 and ran until 2000, winning seven Tony Awards including Best Musical. A brief revival ran from 2016 to 2017. Cats: The Jellicle Ball is the second Broadway revival of the musical.
