Ryan McCartan, who has played Jay Gatsby in multiple stints at Broadway’s The Great Gatsby, returns to the title role July 27 at the Broadway Theatre. He is joined by Great Gatsby national tour star Senzel Ahmady, making her Broadway debut as Daisy Buchanan for a limited engagement through August 2.
McCartan and Ahmady succeed the musical’s original stars: two-time Tony nominee Eva Noblezada as Daisy and Grammy winner Reeve Carney as Jay Gatsby, who played their final performances July 26. Original Broadway cast member Samantha Pauly also concluded her run as Jordan Baker July 26.
Beginning August 3, China Anne McClain, known for the Descendants franchise, Black Lightning, and A.N.T. Farm, will make her Broadway debut as Daisy opposite McCartan’s Gatsby.
The musical, based on F. Scott Fitzgerald’s classic novel, features music and lyrics by Nathan Tysen and Jason Howland, with a book by Kait Kerrigan. Marc Bruni directs with choreography by Dominique Kelley. The cast also includes Corbin Bleu as Nick Carraway and John Behlmann as Tom Buchanan.
The Great Gatsby won the 2024 Tony Award for Best Costume Design of a Musical.
