Yoshihiro Togashi’s Hunter×Hunter Vol. 39 debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Japan Book Hot 100 chart released July 9, marking the series’ first new volume in a year and ten months. The release arrives amid buzz over the series surpassing 100 million copies in cumulative circulation.
The volume placed No. 1 in e-books, No. 2 in brick-and-mortar retail and No. 5 in e-commerce, with an overall point total exceeding 40,000—the highest weekly tally of the year. Eiichiro Oda’s One Piece Vol. 115 followed at No. 2, amassing over 40,000 points across brick-and-mortar, e-commerce and social media metrics. The digital edition is scheduled for release August 4.
Haruki Murakami’s The Tale of KAHO debuted at No. 3. Murakami’s first novel in three years and first to feature a female protagonist, it led both e-commerce and social media metrics for the week.
The Billboard Japan Book Hot 100 combines physical sales, e-books, library loans, subscription data and social media activity. The chart tracked the period from June 29 to July 5.
