Broadway Barks, the free annual pet adoption celebration, is held July 11 in Shubert Alley. Bernadette Peters and Andrew Rannells host the event, which begins at 3 PM with a meet-and-greet of adoptable pets, followed by celebrity presentations from 5–6:30 PM.
More than 70 Broadway performers will present animals from NYC rescue groups, including Don Cheadle, Laurie Metcalf, Bebe Neuwirth, Ben Vereen, and cast members from Schmigadoon!, Wicked, The Great Gatsby, Hadestown, Hamilton, and other current Broadway productions. Cast members from & Juliet will perform a special rendition of “I Kissed a Girl” before the presentations.
The event is produced by Broadway Cares and benefits New York City-area animal rescue groups. Participating shelters include Animal Care Centers of NYC, Best Friends Animal Society, Bideawee, North Shore Animal League, and others. Admission is free and open to the public.
Since its 1998 inception, approximately 85% of the more than 2,500 cats and dogs showcased at Broadway Barks have found homes. The event is sponsored by Fetch Pet Insurance, Tito’s Handmade Vodka, and Humane World for Animals.
