Brandon Lee Harris, who originated the role in MJ's national tour, returns to the Neil Simon Theatre production to play Michael starting July 14, 2026, succeeding Tavon Olds-Sample.

Brandon Lee Harris has been cast as Michael in the Broadway production of MJ at the Neil Simon Theatre, beginning July 14, 2026. Harris originated the role in the first national tour of the Tony-nominated musical about Michael Jackson.

Harris previously performed the role in a brief Broadway engagement in May 2023. He succeeds Tavon Olds-Sample, who originated the role on Broadway in 2021 and played his final show on May 31 after more than 2,000 performances. The role depicts Jackson as a young adult.

MJ features a book by Pulitzer Prize winner Lynn Nottage and direction and choreography by Tony winner Christopher Wheeldon. The record-breaking production currently stars Matte Martinez in the title role. The show began previews December 6, 2021, and officially opened February 1, 2022, winning four 2022 Tony Awards including Best Choreography, Best Lighting Design of a Musical, Best Sound Design of a Musical, and Best Leading Actor in a Musical.
